Fall is here! And it’s an exciting time for landscapers and home-owners alike.

These next few months bring great planting oppourtunities for trees and perennial shrubs. Planting in cooler temperatures has many benefits:

Causes less stress on the plants, especially compared to planting in the summer months when temperatures can be extremely high.

Allows for a longer establishment period. Planting in October or November gives the plants a 4-5-month period to get established before spring arrives.

Encourages root growth. When the air temperatures are cooler than the soil, new root growth is encouraged without new top growth. The result is a stronger, better developed root system  that is ready for the next spring.

Keep in mind, plants that are not “cold-hardy” will benefit from being planted in the spring, rather than fall.

So if you’re on the fence about starting a new landscape or a new planting project, there’s no time like the present!
